80-Gallon Utility Hog Waterer Heater Options & Installation
Keep your 80-gallon utility hog waterer operating reliably in freezing conditions with multiple tank heater and deicer options designed to prevent ice buildup while protecting livestock and equipment.
Available Tank Heater Options
Submersible Tank Heater with Cord Protector Kit
This option uses a submersible tank heater installed in the trough section of the waterer. When paired with the S157520 base heater cord protector kit, the power cord is fully protected inside the tank and exits safely through the top.
This setup helps prevent freezing while keeping electrical cords out of reach of livestock, reducing the risk of chewing or damage.
Internal Tank Heater
The internal tank heaters are heating units designed to warm the main water supply inside the tank. This option is ideal for colder climates or extended freezing conditions. A hole must be made available so the power cord can exit through the top, keeping it safely above animal height.
Installation Considerations
- Heater components are sold as individual part numbers
- Additional drilling may be required when a float valve is already installed
- Proper alignment of drilled holes is important for correct installation
- Remove all plastic shavings after drilling to prevent valve clogging
- Power cords are routed through the top of the tank to prevent livestock access
Adjustable Water Level Control
The Sioux Steel Hog Waterer features an adjustable water level system that allows you to raise or lower the trough water height as needed. A rubber stopper and adjustment nut control water flow, while a threaded filter element helps prevent debris from clogging the valve.
Benefits of Tank Heaters
- Prevents water from freezing in cold weather
- Protects electrical cords from livestock damage
- Designed specifically for use with plastic tanks
- Helps maintain consistent water access for hogs
- Multiple heater options to match climate conditions
