Wheel and Bracket Design
The bracket supports the rotating wheel as livestock lick liquid supplement from its surface. The wheel and bracket are made from poly material, which does not rust. Inspect the axle, mounting points, and remaining feeder components when replacing the assembly.
How a Lick Tank Wheel Delivers Liquid Supplement
A lick tank holds liquid livestock supplement below an exposed rotating wheel. As cattle lick and turn the wheel, its lower portion passes through the supplement and brings a coating to the surface. Animals lick that coating from the wheel, then turn it again to access more. The wheel provides a contact surface for feeding rather than an open trough of liquid.
The bracket and axle support this movement. A damaged wheel, worn mounting point, or binding axle can interfere with rotation, so inspect the assembly as part of routine feeder maintenance. This replacement kit is for the compatible white tank feeders linked above; it is not a complete tank or a supplement.
What Does Liquid Supplement Do for Cattle?
Liquid cattle supplements are often molasses-based and may supply energy, protein, minerals, or vitamins, depending on their formulation. A mineral-fortified liquid can deliver supplemental nutrients while cattle consume the liquid from the wheel. The nutrients come from the feed product, not from the wheel itself.
