Feed Flow Control

All of the Osborne Hog Feeders feature a patented feed control design that minimizes feed loss while providing a self-cleaning trough that doesn't allow for waste. It is an on-demand system that has been trademarked as the 'no waste' mechanical-flow design and is the most efficient in the industry! The diagram below illustrates how the feed is dispensed only when the pigs are moving the wheel, while the paddles sweep the trough clean while in use. Every time the feeder paddles are moved, the feed is dispensed, and the trough is cleaned automatically. When the feed sweep is stationary, and hogs are not feeding, the feed flow is cut off so as not to waste it. This process maximizes weight gain by providing constant feed while minimizing feed loss when the feeder is not in use.

Hog Feeder Review

The Big Wheel hog feeder design from Osborne is a self-cleaning, on-demand hog feeder that keeps pig feed from going to waste by sitting in a trough. The on-demand hog feed flow design guarantees fresh, clean food is available for your animals at all times to promote healthy weight gains. The feed savings from traditional feeders are significant, and the self-cleaning paddles create a healthy environment.

Another nice feature is the poly construction that eliminates rust in the trough and cone sections of the hog feeder. These areas are most prone to corrosion, and the polyethylene design of this feeder will ensure longevity well past traditional metal feeders. Below are some features that set this outstanding feeder apart from the competition and highlight what a well-designed and well-built feeder this is.

Quality and Durability

The Big Wheel Bulk Finish Feeders are meticulously crafted with hot-dipped galvanized metal parts and abrasion-resistant fiberglass-reinforced composite hoppers and troughs. Engineered to withstand the rigors of constant outdoor use and the rambunctiousness of 300-lb. finish hogs, these feeders are built for durability. It's extremely important to contain food costs, as it is often the highest input cost in hog farming.

Less Waste with On-Demand Dispensing

The Osborne 65-bushel capacity model only provides fresh feed on demand, and the patented mechanical-flow feed delivery helps eliminate 'play-waste' typically seen when using a gravity-fed design. This high consumption rate increases feed-to-gain ratios and virtually removes profit-killing waste.

Reduced Stress For More Eating

The round, self-cleaning trough offers pigs a stress-free eating experience with 360-degree access, and the self-cleaning action ensures uninterrupted feed flow even after heavy rains.

Quality and Durability

Osborne Feeders are constructed with extremely durable materials that boast scratch and dent-resistant, reinforced fiberglass hoppers and troughs, and are complemented by hot-dipped galvanized steel metal parts. These all combine to help eliminate rust and corrosion to create a long-lasting and durable farming operation.

Hog Feeder Skids

These tough outdoor hog feeders are available with skids that make it convenient to move the feeder from one location to another. It's made of galvanized steel to stand up to your pig feeding area. The skids also provide an anchoring point and help keep it level for the best operating conditions available. Please be sure to consider these long-lasting skids on your next Osborne hog feeder.

In today's facilities, feed generally represents up to 65% of production costs. Osborne's no-waste Big Wheel Feeders for nursery, wean-to-finish, and finishing pig feeders have been setting high standards for nearly 30 years. The round feeder design gives pigs 360° access to the feeder and fresh feed. The pigs are spread radially around the feeder to provide a less stressful environment while eating. The mechanical design of the feeder keeps fresh feed flowing. No feed flows until pigs move the feed wheel. When pigs stop eating, the feeder stops feeding!

The Swine Whisperer: A story of a large-capacity hog feeder benefiting a hog farmer

In the heart of the rolling farmlands, where the sun painted the sky in hues of gold, lived a man named Ethan. He was no ordinary farmer; he was a swine whisperer. His connection with the pigs ran deeper than the roots of the ancient oaks that lined his property.

Ethan's farm was vast, stretching across acres of fertile soil. His prized possession? Four 65-bushel Osborne hog feeders stood like sentinels in the center of the pig barn. These feeders were more than mere equipment; they were the lifeblood of his operation.

1. Labor Reduction:

Ethan marveled at the efficiency of the Osborne feeders. Gone were the days of backbreaking labor, heaving sacks of feed onto their shoulders. The automated system dispensed the precise amount of feed, saving him hours each week. His tired bones rejoiced, and he could focus on other aspects of the farm.

2. Feeding Simplicity:

The four feeders stood in a row, like old friends. They accommodated a multitude of pigs simultaneously. No more jostling, no more squabbles over food. The pigs lined up, orderly and patient, as if they understood the unspoken pact. Ethan watched, a smile tugging at his lips. It was a symphony—the rhythmic clatter of hooves, the hum of the feeders, and the contented grunts of the swine.

3. Self-Cleaning Paddles:

But it was the self-cleaning feature that fascinated Ethan the most. The paddles within the feed trough rotated, sweeping away any remnants. No more clogs, no more wasted feed. The pigs feasted on pristine grains, and Ethan imagined the paddles whispering secrets to the hungry snouts. "Eat well, my friends," they seemed to say.

4. Profitability:

As the seasons changed, so did the farm's fortunes. The Osborne Hog Feeders contributed to the farm's profitability. The pigs thrived, their weight gain steady. Ethan's heart swelled with pride as he watched them grow. The feeders paid for themselves, and then some. The surplus funds went into expanding the farm, investing in better genetics, and ensuring the pigs' well-being.

One crisp autumn evening, Ethan sat on the porch, a cup of steaming coffee in hand. The sun dipped low, casting long shadows across the fields. The pigs grazed contentedly, their bellies full from the Osborne feeders. Ethan leaned back, the creaky chair supporting him, and whispered to the wind, "Thank you, my friends."

And the wind, perhaps carrying the echoes of the paddles' rotations, whispered back, "Profitable days ahead, Swine Whisperer."

And so, in the quietude of that farm, Ethan tended to his pigs, knowing that the Osborne feeders were more than metal and bolts. They were partners in his journey—a testament to innovation, simplicity, and the bond between man and beast.
