Insulated Panels and Weather Management
R-7.5 insulated composite panels help limit heat transfer through the shelter. The hinged roof provides overhead access and can be opened for additional ventilation. The insulated, hinged floor supports winter protection and can be configured for summer ground cooling according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Insulation does not guarantee a suitable temperature in every climate. Monitor conditions for the sow and piglets and plan bedding, ventilation, and any additional temperature management around local weather and animal needs.
Separate Creep Area
The rear creep area gives piglets a dedicated space away from the sow and is designed to help reduce crushing risk. It does not eliminate that risk or replace regular monitoring of the sow and litter.
Access and Cleaning
The shelter provides 46.5 square feet of internal floor space and a 20 × 30-inch latching entry door. The hinged roof gives access from above, while the non-slip, impact-resistant flooring is designed for cleaning and removal of bedding and waste.
Follow the manufacturer's floor-opening and lifting procedures. The transport instructions specify lifting the unit at least 36 inches from the ground for the bottom floors to open fully outward for cleaning or stowage. Use suitable equipment and follow all handling precautions in the complete instructions.
Moving the Hog Hut
- Use forks at least 72 inches long to engage the internal lift chain.
- Follow the specified fork positioning and lift-chain engagement procedure.
- Close the roof before moving the shelter.
- Never transport the shelter with the bottom floors hanging freely open.
- Remove the internal lift chain before animal use and store it away from animal access, as directed by Osborne.
