Calf Nursery Description
Raising calves is no easy chore but it's much easier when taking advantage of the benefits of our state-of-the-art calf nursery. This innovative design has become the top choice for raising calves and providing shelter to animals throughout the United States and Canada. Studies from the University of Minnesota-Morris have shown that calves raised in these nurseries are healthier and grow faster compared to those kept in traditional wooden hutches. Similar results have been confirmed through testing at several other universities.
The nursery will also help put money back into your pocket. They are designed to help eliminate ammonia build-up, preventing burnt lungs, and frozen ears and tails.
The shelter also helps moderate extreme temperatures and provides year-round shelter. In the winter, the heat from the sun is absorbed, keeping your calves warm at night. Unlike open huts, this heat retention can reduce stress on your growing calves. The nursery stops snow and protects from wind penetration, helping to prevent frozen ears and tails. After years of farm testing, it is still considered the warmest winter hut on the market.
Use the nursery throughout the year with an eight-inch bedding. Open the unit and use outside pens in July and August to prevent heat problems, and keep the calves closed in from September through June.
