Description of Bottomless Tanks

All sizes are built with G-90 galvanized steel in traditional 12 gauge and also a heavier-duty 10-gauge material. The rolled hem extends around the entire top lip of the tank and serves to provide a smooth edge for safety, and makes for faster installation time as there are no angle irons to bolt to the top during assembly. Each one of the sheets is notched at the end to allow for complete compression at each seam and to provide a watertight connection, which means eliminating leaks. The lapped seam includes a double row of bolts and Butyl tape. Combined with the larger .375 steel bolts and new lock nuts, an incredibly strong panel connection is created for a faster and easier installation that still provides a top-quality watertight finish. A lot of competitors will use rejected or re-purposed sheets from their grain bin operations for the walls of the tank, but the Hasting Bottomless Tanks are engineered specifically to be bottomless stock tanks. This results in a much longer-lasting design to provide reliable livestock watering needs for many, many years.

Hastings Bottomless Stock Tank Description

Bottomless stock tanks really don't have a bottom. They're made of a very large corrugated steel ring that holds water.. Of course, the name actually comes from the fact that they’re so big they don’t have a premanufactured bottom!

When you’re shopping for a bottomless stock tank, quality matters. If you need a huge trough for remote herds, a containment tank, or perhaps, a bottomless stock tank pool for cooling off on summer days, you need the finest tank available!

Hastings Bottomless Stock Tank

Barn World sells Hastings bottomless stock tanks because they are the only ones on the market designed from the ground up to be bottomless tanks! There are no repurposed or rejected scraps that go into these tanks, just brand-new 10GA or 12GA G90 galvanized steel.

Bottomless Tank Installation

Unlike tanks that come preassembled or manufactured in one piece, bottomless stock tanks come in sections that must be assembled. All Hastings bottomless stock tanks come with the necessary hardware to put the side pieces together before sealing. Bottomless Stock Tank Features

Whether you’re using your tank for livestock or making a bottomless stock tank pool, you can trust that your Hastings tank will last. With lapped seams connected by double rows of .375 steel bolts combined with lock nuts and Butyl tape, the sides are the definition of overbuilt!

Sealing the Tank

Since the tanks have no bottom, bottomless stock tanks need to be made watertight. There are several methods for accomplishing this.

Concrete

If you pour a concrete slab underneath your tank, you can guarantee you’ve got a permanent solution. Reinforced concrete is incredibly strong and durable. This option can be costly, however, and some farmers don’t want a permanent concrete slab on their property.

Bentonite Clay

As a less expensive alternative, bentonite clay provides a simpler, less permanent way to seal bottomless tanks. Only a few bags of clay are needed to seal tanks since a 50-pound bag can take care of up to 100 square feet.

Pool Liners

Bottomless stock tank pool liners don’t have the permanence of concrete or even clay, but they are a quick and easy solution. Regular swimming pool liners will work just fine.

Tank Sizes

We offer plenty of choices for your tank dimensions.

  • Side Gauges: 10GA or 12 GA
  • Heights: 26” or 33”
  • Diameters: 15’, 20’, 25’, and 30’

This means bottomless stock tanks range anywhere from around 2,200 gallons with a 15’ diameter and 26” wall height to more than 10,000 gallons with a 30’ by 33” bottomless stock tank!

The bottomless stock tank installations are typically done by setting the walls in concrete or depending on the soil conditions by adding lime to create a bottom. There are liners available on the Sioux Steel bottomless tanks click here.

There are three popular methods to seal the bottom of the tank:

1. Most common is likely by pouring a concrete bottom and setting the walls in it.

2. A poly liner: TheSioux Steel tanks have linersdesigned specifically for the tanks. It's a black, 36 mil liner with clams to hold it to the top of the walls. combination of 5-7mil black plastic, sand, and bentonite clay to create an artificial pond bottom (cheaper but more dirt work)

3. Customers with proper soil conditions and the ability to work the soil may mix lime, bentonite clay, etc to create a hardened and water-holding bottom for the tank. A contractor familiar with the local soil conditions should be consulted.
