Hastings Bottomless Tanks for Livestock Watering

Hastings bottomless stock tanks assemble from galvanized steel wall sections to create a large livestock watering tank at the installation site. They can provide storage between refills in remote pastures when paired with an appropriate water supply and a properly prepared, watertight base.

Choose the diameter, wall height, and steel gauge for your herd, site, and delivery requirements. Confirm the exact dimensions and capacity of the selected model before ordering. The tank does not include a manufactured floor; site preparation and a suitable sealing system are part of the installation.

Tank Construction

10-gauge or 12-gauge G90 galvanized steel options.
Rolled top hem and notched panel ends.
Lapped wall seams assembled with butyl sealing tape and double rows of bolts.
Wall-assembly hardware supplied with the tank; use the components and instructions specified for the selected model.

Correct seam preparation, assembly, and sealing are important to performance. Inspect the completed installation and address leaks before putting the tank into service.

Site Preparation and Sealing

Plan a level site, an appropriate supporting base, access for assembly, and a sealing method suitable for the soil and intended use. Obtain model-specific installation requirements from Hastings before beginning work.

Do not assume that a concrete base or soil treatment will remain watertight without proper design and installation. If considering a liner, confirm its dimensions, attachment method, material compatibility, and suitability for livestock watering. An ordinary swimming-pool liner should not be assumed compatible with this tank.

Water Supply and Maintenance

Plan storage capacity around herd demand, refill rate, and the reserve needed between refills. Windmill and solar-powered pumps can have variable output; the tank alone does not guarantee a continuous supply.

Check water levels, refill equipment, seams, and water cleanliness regularly. Include access for cleaning and maintenance in the site plan.

Hello I operate a wildlife rehabilitation center in North Idaho. American Heritage Wildlife Foundation I am looking to expand my care for other species that would benefit from large water areas. The option of your product is new to me. It seems it may be a better fit than traditional stock tanks. This may be considered a stupid question, but what is the base lined with? Would I install concrete and seal it? Perhaps with livestock, the option of plastic or rubber is acceptable but not for my application. Thank you for your time.

How does a bottomless stock tank hold water? What are they lining the bottom with?

There are three popular methods to seal the bottom of the tank:

1. Most common is likely by pouring a concrete bottom and setting the walls in it.

2. A poly liner: TheSioux Steel tanks have linersdesigned specifically for the tanks. It's a black, 36 mil liner with clams to hold it to the top of the walls. combination of 5-7mil black plastic, sand, and bentonite clay to create an artificial pond bottom (cheaper but more dirt work)

3. Customers with proper soil conditions and the ability to work the soil may mix lime, bentonite clay, etc to create a hardened and water-holding bottom for the tank. A contractor familiar with the local soil conditions should be consulted.
