Three-Stage Grooming for Sand and Dirt Arenas

The Behlen Country Arena Ace combines adjustable S-tines, a leveling bar and rear roller bars in one tractor-mounted arena groomer. These components work in sequence to loosen the surface, redistribute footing and leave a more even finish.

It is intended for sand and dirt riding arenas at private barns and commercial facilities. The 96-inch overall width provides an 8-foot equipment footprint; check your gates, access routes and tractor setup before ordering.

How the Grooming Components Work Together

Adjustable S-Tines Loosen the Surface

The 21 heat-treated S-tines work through the top footing to loosen compacted areas and break up clumps. Adjust the grooming depth to suit the footing and the underlying arena base. Deeper work increases draft load; lighter passes can be more appropriate than trying to move too much material at once.

The Leveling Bar Redistributes Footing

Behind the tines, the leveling bar moves loosened material across uneven areas. This helps address ridges and shallow depressions created by traffic. The result depends on footing condition, adjustment and the pattern used to groom the arena.

Rear Roller Bars Finish the Pass

The adjustable rear roller bars help break down remaining clods and finish the worked surface. Having all three stages on one implement makes routine maintenance more convenient than changing between separate tools for each stage.

Tractor Fit and Attachment

The Arena Ace uses a Category 1 or 2 three-point hitch and is specified for tractors up to 50 HP. Horsepower alone does not establish compatibility: confirm that your tractor can lift and handle the 575-pound implement, with suitable ballast and clearance.

Follow the mounting instructions for hitch connections and leveling. A properly matched tractor and adjusted implement make it easier to maintain a consistent working depth across the arena.

Grooming Around Your Footing and Arena Layout

Choose grooming frequency according to use, moisture and surface condition. Inspect high-traffic areas and adjust your routine as conditions change. More passes or greater depth are not automatically better, particularly where the footing layer is shallow or the arena has an intentional crown.

Alternate suitable drag patterns to help distribute material and avoid repeatedly forming ruts. Behlen's manual cautions that a circular pattern across the middle can remove an arena crown. Match the pattern to the arena design rather than treating every surface the same.

Pull the implement forward; it is not designed for pushing. The manual specifies operating below 8 mph, with slower speeds for rough conditions, and keeping bystanders at least 25 feet from the implement during operation. Read the full instructions before use.

Maintenance and Manufacturer Manual

Remove accumulated soil and debris after use, inspect the tines and points for wear, and check fasteners and roller components. Replace worn parts as directed and store the groomer off the soil in a protected location.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Arena Ace

What size tractor do I need?

Behlen specifies a Category 1 or 2 three-point hitch and a tractor rated up to 50 HP. Check your tractor's lift capacity, stability and ballast requirements for the 575-pound implement. A matching hitch or horsepower rating alone does not confirm that a tractor is suitable.

Can it work with different arena footing materials?

The Arena Ace is intended for sand and dirt arenas. Adjust the tines and finishing components to suit the footing depth and condition. For specialized footing blends, confirm compatibility with the footing supplier and Behlen before use.

How often should I groom my arena?

Base the schedule on riding traffic, moisture and surface condition. Frequently used areas may need more attention than lightly used areas. Inspect the footing and vary the pattern as appropriate; excessive depth or unsuitable passes can disturb the base or an intentional arena crown.

Does it have adjustable tines?

Yes. It has 21 adjustable S-tine assemblies. The leveling bar and rear roller arrangement also allow adjustment so you can match the grooming action to your arena. Follow the manual rather than assuming a single depth works for every surface.

Can it loosen compacted areas?

The S-tines are designed to loosen the surface and break up clumps. Results depend on the material, moisture and adjustment. Work within the footing layer and use suitable passes rather than relying on aggressive depth to correct every compacted area. Grooming alone does not repair an underlying drainage or base problem.

What maintenance does it need?

Remove soil and debris after use, check fasteners and roller components, and inspect the S-tines and replaceable points for wear. Follow the manual for servicing and replacement, and store the implement off the soil in a protected location.

Is it suitable for indoor and outdoor arenas?

It can be used in suitable indoor or outdoor sand and dirt arenas when tractor access, clearance and footing conditions allow. Confirm adequate space for the tractor and 96-inch-wide implement, and choose a grooming pattern suited to the arena layout.

What warranty is included?

Behlen's manual states a one-year warranty excluding wear parts. Dated proof of purchase is required for claims. Review the manufacturer's complete warranty terms for coverage and exclusions.
