Bull Flex Hay Tarp for Hay Stacks
What Makes the Bull Flex Hay Tarp Different?
When you have a significant investment in hay sitting outside, covering it properly is worth the effort. A good hay tarp needs to do more than keep rain off the top of the stack. It needs to stay in place, handle wind, and hold up to repeated use.

The Bull Flex™ hay tarp was designed with those practical considerations in mind. It is a heavy-duty, flexible hay cover made from 7 oz polyethylene with a 16 mil thickness. The tarp is designed for both round and square bale stacks and uses reinforced webbing loops and sewn-in pockets to give you more options for securing the tarp than a conventional grommet-style cover.
Built for Round and Square Hay Bales
Bull Flex hay tarps can be used over both round and square bale stacks. The important thing is to choose a tarp large enough to cover the stack properly while leaving enough material along the sides and ends for securing it.
Barn World currently offers Bull Flex sizes ranging from 14' x 52' up to 45' x 52'. The larger sizes are intended for substantial hay stacks, while the smaller options work for more compact stacks.

Bull Flex Hay Tarp Construction
The Bull Flex is made from 7 oz polyethylene fabric and has a 16 mil thickness. The material is white on one side and silver on the other.
- 7 oz polyethylene fabric
- 16 mil thickness
- White on one side and silver on the other
- 2-inch reinforced webbing loops spaced every 3 feet
- Sewn-in side pockets for inserting pipe
- Designed for round or square bale hay stacks
- Chuck-wagon-style ends to help reduce wind flapping
These features matter because a hay tarp is only useful if it stays where you put it. The combination of frequent tie-down points and the side pockets gives you several ways to distribute tension across a large cover.
Choosing the Right Hay Tarp Size
Choosing the right size is one of the most important parts of buying a hay tarp. Measure the length and width of your hay stack and allow enough material to come down the sides for proper coverage and tie-down.
Bull Flex tarps are available in these sizes:
| Hay Tarp Size | Approximate Weight |
|---|---|
| 14' x 52' | 50 lb |
| 18' x 52' | 65 lb |
| 23' x 52' | 78 lb |
| 25' x 52' | 81 lb |
| 28' x 52' | 90 lb |
| 30' x 52' | 99 lb |
| 33' x 52' | 110 lb |
| 35' x 52' | 115 lb |
| 42' x 52' | 124 lb |
| 45' x 52' | 135 lb |
If you are unsure which size will work for your stack, it is better to work from the actual dimensions of the stack rather than simply choosing a tarp based on bale count.
Securing a Bull Flex Hay Tarp
Even a heavy-duty hay tarp can be damaged if it is not secured properly. Wind puts a tremendous amount of stress on a large tarp, particularly along the edges and corners.
The Bull Flex can be used with the Super Cinch hay tarp tie-down system. The tie-down system works with the reinforced attachment points on the tarp to provide a more consistent way to tension the cover.
Take the time to tighten the tarp evenly rather than concentrating all of the tension in a few locations. It is also a good idea to check the ropes and tie-downs periodically, particularly after strong winds or severe weather.
Protecting Hay From Weather
Hay stored outdoors is exposed to rain, snow, sunlight, and ground moisture. Water that gets into a hay stack can contribute to spoilage, while prolonged exposure to the elements can reduce the usable portion of the stack.
A properly installed hay tarp provides a practical barrier between the hay and the weather. For outdoor storage, the tarp works best as part of a complete system that includes appropriate ground preparation, proper drainage, and secure tie-downs.
Barn World also carries hay tarp accessories and other hay covers, including tie-down equipment, rope, repair tape, and side curtains.
Why the Tie-Down System Matters
One of the easiest mistakes to make with a hay tarp is treating the tarp itself as the entire solution. The cover and the way it is secured work together.
The Bull Flex's webbing loops are spaced every 3 feet, giving you frequent attachment points along the tarp. The side pockets can also accommodate pipe for additional continuous support along the tarp edges.
For larger hay stacks, using the proper tie-down equipment makes installation easier and gives you a more controlled way to keep the tarp tight.
Bull Flex Hay Tarps at Barn World
We have sold hay and livestock equipment for years, and when it comes to hay tarps, the details of the construction matter. A tarp that is difficult to secure or does not stay tight in the wind can create problems regardless of how heavy the fabric is.
The Bull Flex combines heavy-duty polyethylene fabric with reinforced webbing loops and sewn-in pipe pockets. It is available in a wide range of sizes for both round and square bale stacks.
